It’s not hard to imagine why, twelve years of school with a couple of relapses will do that to you.
This Easter, however, I’m particularly moved by transformation, which I suppose is why I’m planning to come back to blogging regularly.
I had mentioned previously advice compelling bloggers not to remark on long intervals between posts, and that, to me, it seemed like good advice.
However, like so much good advice I’ve been given, which I also thought sounded reasonable, I’ve ignored it.
Repeatedly.
While reviewing my previous blog posts (and being shocked at the number of logical and factual errors, though less shocked at the number of spelling errors, phonemic restoration, mixed metaphors, dangling modifiers, prepositions the end of sentences at, and syntax errors) as I prepare to move the blog to a new location (soon to be announced, but not hard to guess), I’m surprised by the number of times I’ve remarked on my absence from blogging.
And for periods of time which now seem adorably short.
I’ve always intended to blog regularly but, other things have become, or needed to become priorities.
This time, however, I like the Cylons, I have a plan.
Usually I had posted as the mood or interest struck me, but that is clearly not working.
I think this plan is reasonably easy enough to stick to (unlike my plan to go exercise BEFORE work [what was I thinking about with that, right?]).
Most “experts” on blogging advise to pick a topic, preferably something topical for good SEO (ask your vice-president of online marketing and or social media) and post regularly about it.
Well, two out of three isn’t bad, however, yet again I won’t be following good and reasonable advice.
This time I actually have reasons.
I like the freedom to write about whatever moves me on my own blog whether it’s politics, cars or Bugs Bunny (please see the list of categories to see how all over the road I am), and I don’t want to have to create another blog because I want to write about something “off topic”.
I’m not really writing any of this to further an agenda, other than please try to be nice to one another, or at least be civil, so good SEO isn’t particularly compelling for me.
Fine, I’ll explain SEO, although I would think you know this stuff by now.
SEO is Search Engine Optimization, and fundamentally the objective is to game Google's search engine algorithm so that your content comes up ahead of any of your competition’s content, or at the very least on the first page of Google's search results.
Nobody cares about Bing search results so SEO is focused almost exclusively on Google.
I could improve my SEO, for example, by writing exclusively about porn, sports or any one named Kardashian, but I’m only familiar with one of those three things, and I have no interest in the other two.
Blogging regularly, is something I'm willing to put some effort into.
Buckle up, we're going to have a fun ride.
